Diane Hale

Diane Hale

Diane is the CEO of Best in the West Safety, Inc and of the Southwest Compliance and Safety Training Center. She brings her knowledge and expertise to the general industry, construction, environmental, mining and hazardous materials industries to a professional training facility that is both interesting, interactive and knowledgeable for the continuing education student. Since 1995 Diane has worked in the mining, and environmental field in the Las Vegas area. Her knowledge of the subject matter is conveyed to the classroom that ensures workers are prepared to meet the safety standards which are not only required, but are easily applied to the working environment through practical and common sense practices.

When Diane isn't managing her company, she's enjoying the desert and building her rock collection.


Glenn Hale

Glenn Hale

Glenn S. Hale has been working in stormwater drainage design for 25 years. His career started with working with the USGS Water Resources Division running stormwater hydraulic and channel scour calculations with an associated publication from USGS on the West Folk of the Carson River.

In addition he has worked in the land development business as a civil designer and professional civil engineer in Nevada designing stormwater drainage systems for several land development projects. Glenn has worked with local government as a technical drainage study reviewer which included designs associated with post construction stormwater quality site controls commonly referred to as "Best management practices," now referred to as Control Measures. He also understands water chemistry with a MS degree from Penn State University in Environmental Pollution Control affiliated with Agricultural Engineering.

He is also a Nevada Certified Environmental Manager. He has worked in the environmental consulting field for industrial and government clients in Pennsylvania, California as well as Nevada. Glenn is currently working the Clark County MS4 Stormwater Compliance inspection project through HERServices, Inc. contract. The work involves reviewing local industrial and construction sites for compliance with NPDES stormwater quality discharges to the public drainage systems. He has considerable knowledge in the field of stormwater drainage design and water quality management practices in Nevada and understands the unique policies and regulations associated with stormwater issues.


Abigail Sumanis

Abigail Sumanis

Abigail received her Bachelors of Science in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability from Colorado State University in 2016. She currently works as a contracted Environmental Planner for Clark County Water Quality. In that capacity, she assists with Clark County stormwater regulatory enforcement, environmental reporting and document development, community outreach and engagement support, and water quality field data collection.

In the past she has gained experience working as an Environmental Scientist where she conducted Biological and Environmental Assessments and Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments for various state and federal agencies on federal and private lands throughout the southwest. She has experience researching and collecting data on affected environments and environmental consequences associated with development projects, focusing on effects on air quality, cultural and archaeological resources, wetlands and streams, stormwater, vegetation, geology and soils, wildlife, threatened and endangered species, visitor use and experience, and impacts on management and operations.

Abigail also served as a Health and Safety Officer, where she developed project specific Health and Safety Plans, conducted weekly safety trainings, and ensured compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to worker health and safety.

Throughout her professional career, Abigail has established strong professional working relationships with agencies, cities, and community members throughout Nevada.

Juan Erenas

Juan Erenas

Juan is a Certified Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Control Specialist and a Certified Construction Health and Safety Technician for Best in the West Safety. When he’s not out conducting EPA stormwater compliance inspections, he manages and analyzes inspection data and identifies construction sites requiring inspection throughout unincorporated Clark County.

In addition, Juan assists in content creation for BIWSafety.com and administers the photography and videos as well as programs the design and functionality of the website.


Mark Rettzo

Mark Rettzo

Mark works as the Environmental and Safety Technician for Best in the West Safety. He is certified in construction health and safety and in stormwater pollution prevention and control. He is a consultant for Clark County and conducts EPA stormwater compliance inspections and reporting throughout unincorporated Clark County. Additionally, he conducts Phase I Environmental Site Assessments under Best in the West Safety.

In the past, he has worked internationally as a certified crane operator and heavy equipment operator.


Josie Ramos

Josie Ramos

Josie is the Respiratory Protection Program Manager for Best in the West Safety. Her career began as a contractor for the Department of Energy at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). She brings to our team a wide variety of experience in the Environmental safety and Health and Industrial Hygiene field. During her 27-year career at the NNSS she worked in various areas throughout the site performing Industrial Hygiene field monitoring and provided Respiratory Protective equipment utilized by NNSS personnel. Josie also supported Industrial operations at the site, including special projects dictated by the DOE, DOD and National Laboratories.

Outside of Best in the West Safety, Josie enjoys a good Netflix marathon day, but can also be found outdoors planting or enjoying a long bike ride in her small home town.
